The central part of this house on the Ottawa River, on the Ontario side, was originally a house I had designed and built for a previous client. The new owners wished to retain the shell of the original and add to both ends. This allowed them to remain close to the water. If we had torn the original house down, the new house would have to be 30 meters back from the river's edge.
The clients participated in every detail of construction, taking on some sub contracts such as kitchen cabinets and ordering specific materials like the artificial stone. My tradesmen are aware of this relationship and make suggestions all along to make as best a result as possible. Rather than an adversarial relationship, it was one of co-operation. This is truly the owners' home! The excellent landscaping was done by the clients.

Smith House, Arnprior, Ontario
The original house burnt down. The Living Room was re-created with a deliberate unpretentious curb appearance.

Whitton/Halliday Additions, Ottawa
Designed and built by Bob Jurmain
This was a project where two side by side dwellings were re-joined together into one unit. Excellent landscaping by Allan Goddard including a flowing pond.
Here is a recent email I received from Don and Gail:
"A very belated thanks for your nice website. I think it looks terrific. And I especially liked the lovely picture of our solarium, which is still in first class shape, and as delightful to sit in as ever. Your design was so much different from what we had been thinking of, and is so much nicer, and more practical, that I can't thank you enough for designing and doing it. Lovely. And it still seems to be as airtight etc as when it was new. A beautiful job"

McManus Residence, Almonte, Ontario
House on Lanark Hwy. Pond was considered fishless so we could build close. It was designed as a possible B&B but I don't believe it occurred. Elderly clients have since moved away.
