First 2012 Rainbow

Over at my favorite "Calabogie large trout lake" yesterday, I was paddling further into deeper water (50-60') to miss the fishers casting from shore at the first campsite when this 20+" rainbow hit on an #10 olive HK (#4 sink).  I had never caught a fish in this particular area.   Shows you what I know about this lake I've been fishing for almost 20 years.  I was also motoring along to get to the place "that always has fish".  That was it.  No other bites, hits, rises, tantalizing streaks on the scope, nothing (not even at the "place").  I did get an interesting piece of information from the spin casters.  They caught a 3 pounder in January and it's belly was full of small olive "nymphs", most likely scuds and/or dragons. Nice to know that there is lots of food in there winter time.  Igor had caught a 21 inch rainbow on Saturday last but its stomach was completely empty. The shoreline vegetation is still pretty dead looking with the lime
precipitate all over.  I wonder how much food there is at this time of year.  There was another guy with hardware who had pulled in three, one larger.  He was also fishing deep water.  Igor mentioned that his gave quite a fight as did mine.  I thought my index finger was going to drop off, it had taken so many runs.  Not a great picture as I wanted to get it away ASAP but as much as I love my Stevens soft rubber net, I need a larger one for Limestone. It is only 18 inches across
My new HK's are a little different.  I put the black squirrels tail across the back and eliminate the golden peacock tail. Red wool body.
