Back to my favorite little pond.  Water is warming fast! 62F.  This is the time of year that the bigger fish in any given lake can be caught.  Once the lakes start getting attention, the big guys go deep during the day and come up top later in the evening.  I always catch at least one big one early in the season and this is it, I suppose.  This one is likely 4 years old caught on a chironomid dropped from a Phentex Humpy.
The Phentex Humpy is my version of a dry Boatman.  I have more representative boatman patterns but the Humpy does better during the hatch.
I've taken to using my two 3wt rods more when the expectation is fish at a max of 16".   It is much more fun and you can get them in fast enough for safe release.  I will use a floating line with a sink tip attached.   If I need to get deeper I will add another sink tip.
The sink tip is an  interesting rig.  It will go to its stable point quickly and stay there.  With a stillwater line, it will continue to sink.  So if you  want to maintain a certain depth and be relatively still, this is a good choice. Eventually, if you are completely still it will continue to drop but if you are not anchored, it is not likely to happen.
