Local lakes have been open for a week. It is important to get out ASAP as conditions change quickly. As soon as ice is out, midges start their ascent from the muddy bottoms. By noon they are starting to emerge. My favorite rig is a bushy dry a foot from the line and as long a dropper as I can manage with my 3wt with a chironomid. This time, yellow with white thread head seemed to be the most productive. The Muncher also was catching.
I've been negligent in posting so these have been backdated....too busy fishing! (and other things). This is a small pond in the Calabogie area and so they don't grow all that big. Based on a recent MNR netting and age analysis, I figure these two fish are 2 to 3 years old.
